This itinerary is for the Wilderness Cruise
(Unless listed, each day’s meals include: Breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner)
Day 1 - Juneau, AK
Boarding Ship at 5:00 PM. (Please note, there is no early boarding) We provide scheduled airport pick-ups. For those coming in a day earlier, we provide luggage pick-up at in-town hotels. Your vacation begins with a tour of the Alaska State Museum (395 Whittier St., Juneau). Please meet our naturalist at the door at 2:00 PM for Fantasy Cruise check-in and tour. We sail this evening for our first wilderness anchorage. (Cocktails, Dinner)
Day 2 - Hoonah, AK
This afternoon we’re off for a Native experience. Visit the Icy Strait Point “Historic Salmon Cannery.” Enjoy a “Tlingit” cultural experience arranged for your education and entertainment. There’s a time for a forest walk or even a thrilling adventure, as you might embark on the optional, world’s longest zip-line. Later this afternoon we depart Hoonah, cruising east for our evening anchorage.
Day 3 - Tenekee Springs, AK
We cruise through Chatham Strait as we make our way to Tenekee Springs. This wonderful village of only 98 people, gives us the opportunity to see how a quaint Alaskan town lives. Visit the bakery and 1899 mercantile. Local artist wares are available for sale in this unique setting. This afternoon watch for whales as we cruise to our evening anchorage.
Day 4 - Chatham Strait - Wilderness Bays
This morning we will explore Chatham Strait, anchor this afternoon for some kayaking and take an Interpretive walk with our Naturalist. Later we cruise during dinner to the Captain’s anchorage of choice.
Day 5 - Baird Glacier & Sea Lion haul out
Depending on wildlife and weather, your Captain will plan today’s route. We start our day with a small boat ride to see the large gathering of our local favorites, Stellar Sea Lions. Get up close and personal with these boisterous mammals, enjoy their singing and snorting as we say hello. Later, we may stop by Thomas Bay for a little beach walk and Glacier viewing? It’s on our way to the Scandinavian fishing village of Petersburg, AK where we enjoy an evening in port.
Day 6 - Petersburg, AK & Frederick Sound
This morning we enjoy a Muskeg walk and scenic stroll overlooking Frederick Sound and Devil’s Thumb. Afterwards, you may choose to visit the local museum and small locally owned shops. We set sail this afternoon for Stephen’s Passage. Weather permitting, we visit Five Fingers lighthouse, continuing to our evening anchorage in Holkam Bay. Five Fingers lighthouse is occupied by our favorite marine biologist, Fred Sharp. If available, Fred will join us onboard for a discussion the local humpback whale population, known to frequent this area.
Day 7/8 - Dawes Glacier & Majestic Ford’s Terror
Today we visit beautiful Endicott Arm and view magnificent Dawes Glacier from the comfor of our vessel. Watch for harbor seals that rest on the ice. Later today, we enter a magical place - Ford’s Terror, named after an early mariner unfamiliar to the lively Alaska waters. This region is some of the most scenic in the Tongass National Forest. We will enjoy a full day in Ford’s Terror, beginning the day with brunch, then taking skiff rides with our naturalist, or kayaking to watch nature at its best. Be among a handful on the planet to visit this majestic fjord for 24 hours. It’s one of the most majestic hidden fjords in southeast AK. Later this evening we dock in Juneau, AK. Back where we began! (Brunch, Dinner)
Day 9 - Juneau, disembark
Enjoy breakfast onboard, trade emails, say farewell to your crew and new friends. Shuttles provided to airport/ hotels. (Breakfast)
